Laura Gabell – Founder of Monument City Dog

My dog journey technically started when I was a kid, completely obsessed with 101 Dalmatians and convinced I was destined to live in a house full of spotted dogs. While I never did end up with 101, that early love for dogs stuck with me and eventually led me into the world of training.

Years later, I found a stray dog in Patterson Park, and that moment completely changed my path. I got involved with local shelters and fostering, and quickly saw how many dogs were struggling with behavior issues, and how few resources there were to help them. That’s when I started digging in, learning everything I could about training and behavior.

Since then, I’ve spent the past 15 years deeply immersed in the world of dog behavior. I’ve attended multiple seminars, shadowed experienced trainers across the country, and shaped my approach by working hands-on with real dogs in real-life situations. I believe in a balanced approach to training, with a strong focus on helping dogs develop a calmer mindset and better coping skills, not just a longer list of commands.

Today, I work with everyday dogs and their families to create lasting change, whether that’s building a solid foundation through basic obedience or helping a more complicated dog work through behavior challenges. I believe training should feel clear, structured, and personal, and that both you and your dog should walk away feeling more confident and connected.

Caitlin - Head Trainer

With over 13 years of experience in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of dogs, each with their own unique behaviors and needs. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of canine behavior and honed my skills in handling and caring for them. My journey into dog training wasn’t something I initially planned, it was a natural progression fueled by a true passion for working with animals and a desire to help them thrive.

My adventure into training truly began with my own dog, Dylan, who struggles with anxiety. Despite working with several trainers, we couldn’t seem to make lasting progress, until I reconnected with Laura, my now-boss and childhood friend. Watching her work with Dylan and actually helping her improve was eye-opening. It not only gave me hope but also sparked a genuine interest in dog training and behavior, one that has grown into a passion and ultimately led me to where I am today.

Now, I work side-by-side with Laura at Monument City Dog, helping dogs and their families build stronger, more trusting relationships through structured, compassionate training. We specialize in balanced training methods, combining positive reinforcement with clear boundaries to create lasting behavioral change. Through our training programs, we give dogs the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a consistent, supportive environment. This is something I’ve found to be incredibly effective, particularly for anxious or fearful dogs. Watching them grow in confidence and seeing the positive impact on their families is by far the most rewarding part of what I do.
